Almost Bad Boys Series - Review

Almost Bad Boys Banner

Almost Matched Cover

Would you take another shot at love? Or just settle on a friend with benefits?
Twenty-five-year-old Natalie Davenport lugs substantial baggage. One boyfriend after the next has been a total disaster, leaving Natalie distrustful toward the male population in general. So when Colin Hampton crosses her path, she’s cautious. Her heart (and some other body parts!) nudges her to go for it, while her head wants her to run for the hills.
Colin is one of those gorgeous guys who attract women, no matter the age or marital status. With a successful career at a popular Seattle radio station, hard body, and charming personality, he is the complete package. But something dark lurks in the corners of his soul; some murky experience that has changed him—maybe for the better, but maybe for the worse.
Will he steal her heart and stomp over it like other guys did?
Will she let him into her heavily fortified world despite herself?
Or will they settle somewhere in the middle—establishing the emotional boundaries to protect them from falling in love?
This contemporary romantic comedy blends humor, sensuality, and angst, with zany characters and witty dialogue.
***Warning: contains sexual situations (some quite vivid!), profanity, and a high dose of sarcasm. Oh, and there is a lot of appletini and beer drinking.
May not be appropriate for readers under 18 years old. Not intended for prudes and killjoys with no sense of humor***

Almost Broken Up Cover

How far would you go to protect the one you love?
The terrors of Colin’s past are revealed and accepted by Natalie. Her doubts about letting him into her life are finally disbanded and replaced by a sense of security and commitment. But Natalie doesn’t know that Colin’s past hides more dark secrets unknown even to him.
When a delusional psychopath threatens Colin’s life, things quickly become complicated. Natalie’s stubborn character and desire to kick ass won’t let her step aside and allow the authorities to handle the danger. She gets herself tangled up with street hoodlums, befriends a Russian mobster’s high-maintenance girlfriend, and becomes expert at picking locks and hiding evidence.
This contemporary romantic comedy/mystery blends humor and sensuality with enough thriller elements to make you clutch the pages with terror. The offbeat characters and witty dialogue from Almost Matched are here to stay.
**Warning: contains sexual situations, profanity, and a high dose of sarcasm. Oh, and the appletini is still the drink of choice.
May not be appropriate for readers under 18 years old. Not intended for prigs and sourpusses who get easily affronted**
***Almost Broken Up is the second installment in the Almost Bad Boys series, and it comes after book one, Almost Matched. The books in this series should be read in order. They are not stand-alone books***

My Review:

Natalie hasn’t had the best of luck when it comes to relationships. She runs into Colin at work one morning wearing her bra…. Talk about embarrassing!!! She definitely catches Colin’s eye though and he gives her his number. The question for Natalie though is does she want a relationship or only a friends with benefit type of relationship.

This book had some funny, laugh out loud moments especially with Natalie and her friends. It reminded me a lot of the girls from Sex in the City. They are open and willing to talk about pretty much any topic. I think the sword fight will have to go down in history as a hilarious scene! The second would have to be the cake and Mrs. Yeng returning mail! Priceless!

Colin and Natalie start off so romantic and it is funny how Natalie can’t believe it’s been two dates and then three and then it’s been two months! He is so swoon-worthy! But, there is a past that hasn’t been revealed yet and once it comes out could it be the end of their relationship or are they firm enough to stick it out???

Book 2 Review:

I loved how this starts off with Colin’s POV and we get a history of his background with Faith and what happened right before and leading up to when Faith died. I am soooo glad this was included in Book 2 because after the bomb dropped from book one I really wanted to read more on the issue.

Colin and Natalie are going HOT and I do mean HOT and heavy!!! WOWZERS!!! But, now that they are finally getting to a point of being happy some strange tattooed guy named Razor shows up and freaks Natalie out. He is from the past and wants her to warn Colin that he is back and will pay for what he did to ‘HER’. That took us on an adventure that I really wasn’t expecting and had you wandering what kind of crazy psycho this guy truly was.

Also, Natalie and Ali end up making a new friend which opened a whole new door of craziness!!! Although their new friend did come in handy when needed against crazy psycho stalkers!!! But, to be honest… I wouldn’t have done half the things those girls got themselves into! I loved Ali’s character though! She was a hoot especially when she was talking with the escort.

There wasn’t really a cliffhanger at the end of this novel but it was action packed and was entertaining from beginning to end!

Book 3 review to come! I wanted each one to be highlighted separately!

J Speaks (L&J #1.5)

“I came here, baby, to tell you I love

you. I love you. I love you. I love you.”

He inhaled sharply, but said in an even voice. “And I can’t lose you

before the greatest fight I will ever wage.”

Redemption. Could I absolve him? I lay in

a hospital bed for two weeks. All of it at his hands. I’d been marred, though

the scar on my skin was not the worst damage. It was a reminder of the scar I’d

carried inside. Could he erase that scar? Could he heal a wound one could not

There was silence, deafening silence. I

tried to keep it together. I used every ounce of energy I had to keep the fire

at a low flame, but it blazed through me. He would’ve shot my kid, and I

couldn’t let that happen. These kids, they’d become my lifeline. My light.

“Without those kids, I’m just as dark as

you.” I said emotionlessly, empty. These last few weeks of pretending during

the day, only to come home and sob until sleep graced me was maddening. “I’ve

got nothing left to give you, J. Nothing.”

 I hung

my head, losing the fight with the tears that had been threatening to erupt

since J arrived. “I can’t be your light, when I have none.”

We lay on the floor, two damaged bodies

searching for the light. J pulled my head into his hands, bringing us face to

face. I could feel his breath against my lips. “You were a comet that bust into

my life out of no where” he whispered. “I begged for you. On my knees in the

dirt, I groveled to the sky to bring me light. And there you were, at Eight Oh

Eight, staring up at me, even though I knew you couldn’t see through the

window. I saw you, though. Elle, I saw you long before you saw me.”

“How could I love a killer?”

“How much pain was worth loving this man?

“Please, baby.

Please. I need you. I love you. I can’t go into this without knowing you’ll be

here when I return.”

“I’m not sure what

to say. I want to tell you I’ll wait. That I’ll be here, waiting like a good

girl for you. I want to because I love you. Fuck, I love you.” I turned,

finally ready to look him in the eye. “I don’t know where I’ll be. I can’t tell

you that. But I can tell you that I love the fuck out of you, and no matter how

much I try to stop,” I paused. Fuck this mother fucker. Fuck! God, why was he

doing this to me? Angry tears, sad tears, hopeless tears, tears filled with

longing fell from my eyes. J caught then with his thumb, but there were too

many. They ran over his fingers like a waterfall.

“Fuck, J. I don’t

want you to die.”

He pulled me to him,

and I inhaled his scent. I’d never be able to smell Acqua di mother fucking Gio

again and not think of him. Today it was mixed with the smell of exhaust, like

he’d been riding around all night. For what felt like the gazillionth time, I

crumbled into his arms. How did two times come to be a number exponentially

“I don’t want to

die, baby. I want to fall asleep next to you. I want to wake up next to you.

I’m fighting this war for you. To be with you.”

the illegal genetically modified products he’s investigating have anything to
do with her?

home than she thought? When everyone seems to be gunning for them, can she find
love and salvation with Rory before it’s too late?

I recently discovered those school vocational assessments are really interesting and probably correct! Who would have thought, hey? You see, I clearly remember taking one of those in Year 11 (for my US friends, I think that equates to junior year in high school). Anyway, semantics. Well, the results came back indicating that I should pursue a career in writing and something else. What that something else was I can’t remember but the writing thing stuck in my mind.

Sure, I’d always liked English and had already developed a ravenous appetite for romance novels by the age of sixteen—but who becomes a writer straight out of school? So to cut a long story short, I went to Uni and studied Business and ended up managing large-scale IT projects shortly after.
I can’t complain: it’s been a great career. I’ve done some awesome projects and met some incredible people and I won’t be giving it up anytime soon. Anyway, I’ve messed around with a couple of “secret” novels over the years and I finally decided to get serious and finish one. Hence “Finding Trust” came about. And about twenty years later, I’ve finally proved a vocational assessment correct, because I love

As to some other stuff about me: I live on the Gold Coast, Australia. I love spending time with my family and friends. When I’m not sitting behind a screen playing with IT or writing, you might find me down the beach playing in the waves on a Jet Ski or a bogey board (both are uber cool). When the weather turns a bit cooler (doesn’t really happen on the Gold Coast), we like to head for the snow. I’ve discovered I have two kids who are kamikaze skiers—they must take after their father. He’s always at me to “release the handbrake.” Apparently I’d ski so much better. I call it a healthy understanding of self-preservation and gravity!
I like to think I can fit in a few workouts and martial arts classes each week. This tends to be a figment of my imagination more than reality, unfortunately. I am trying to remedy this, but those damn characters just keep demanding to have their stories told and, well, there’s always another good book to read!

I hope you enjoy mine.

Please drop me a line. You can find me at my website,   I’m active on Facebook, Twitter, and via email I’d love to know what you think of my books and well, let’s be truthful—I love talking about books, whether they’re mine or someone else’s. Fiction is just so much more fun than reality!!!

Happy Reading

Heaven In You - Cover Reveal

2003 was a wild year for Jasmine Ashcroft and Jonathan Fox. Betrayal. Tragedy. Breakups. Reunions. And way too many long-haul flights. Now Jasmine and Jonathan just want to get away from it all for a little while. What better place to celebrate their first Christmas together than an out-of-the-way cabana in the Riviera Maya? No electricity, no phones, no paparazzi. Just sea, sunshine, and--hopefully--lots of shagging.

But like the most tenacious of groupies, mayhem follows the Strange Angels frontman everywhere…even to paradise. If Kit and his Wild One want their newfound relationship to survive this vacation, they’re going to need a lot of trust, strength, and patience. And tequila. Mucho tequila.

Warning! This novella is for readers 18+ only due to drug references, mature language, and lots of steamy Rock star sex.

Unfortunately for them time is not on their side and the Rogue Vampires have plans for Kailah no one could have imagined.

The night was cool and thick as it sheathed me in total darkness. The satin shorts and camisole that I’d gone to bed in were now damp from the moisture hanging heavily in the air. Holding my hands in front of my body, I blindly wandered around in blackness as I tried to find some kind of clue that would give me a better picture. My bare feet told me that I was standing on soft ground, the tall grass tickling my calves as I moved. It was possible that I was in a large pasture, though the clean, crisp scent of the air let me know that no large animals were near.
Thunder cracked in the distance and the ominous, coal-black clouds had even chased the moon and stars into hiding, not even the faintest glow giving away their location. It took a moment, but my mind was finally beginning to recognize this place. This was a dream world, one that I’d seen before. With every passing night, with every passing dream, I was able to travel further and further into this illusion as I tried to discover its meaning. I’d had recurring dreams before, but there was something different, disturbing about this one that seemed to speak to me. There was something that I was supposed to learn here and I needed to find it.
The wind began to pick up and I looked to the north, the same direction that I looked to every night. Lightning cascaded across the sky, illuminating the massive, empty pasture in which I stood. The momentary flash brought something to my attention that I’d never seen in the dream before. Two figures stood off in the distance, several yards between them, facing off. Even with great distance between us, I could feel the tension rolling off
of them. That must be the dark, heavy feeling in the air that I’d felt: anger, hatred.
Thunder rolled again as the lightning danced across the sky. Using the display to light my path, I ran toward the figures ahead of me. As I approached, a bolt of raw, electric energy reached down from the sky and ignited the immediate area in flames. The swift turn of events stopped me short, nearly throwing me to the ground. The flames spread into a perfect circle as it surrounded both figures, blocking any further approach by me. Sharp chills cut through me from head to toe as I realized that one of them was fully controlling the blaze.
Now that I was closer, I could tell that the figures were women. One woman, maybe an inch or two over five feet tall, stood around fifty feet away, and to my right. Her long, jet-black hair reached just below her hips and whipped around in the increasing wind. As I studied her, I began to see a deep-red, transparent cloud, like an aura surrounding her. She was strong, very strong, and I could feel her overwhelming power from here
Looking to my left, her opponent was roughly the same height; only her hair was frosty white and hung to her knees. This woman was much different. She was surrounded by an aura cloud as well, though hers was dark blue. Something about her called to me and it took everything I had not to trudge barefooted through the flames to reach her
Rain began to fall and quickly soaked everything around us, though it was still unable to extinguish the fire. Movement brought me to attention as the white haired woman lifted her arms. The earth began to quake beneath me as it broke free all around her. She looked like a dancer as she maneuvered her body, forcing the element into submission under her power. The packed earth sailed through the air towards the dark haired woman, but she was quick to react.
In a flash, she completely disappeared from my sight, managing to dodge the attack. My eyes moved quickly as I focused to find her. My body locked up as my vision was suddenly clouded with the mysterious dark haired woman as she appeared before me, seemingly out of nowhere. Her dark, emerald green eyes and dilated coal-black pupils stared into mine, glinting in the firelight. Her raven hair seemed alive as it brushed my skin and sent tingles running through my body. Her flawless, olive-toned skin nearly glowed as she stood there, concern in her expression. “Kailah.” As her soft, sweet voice spoke my name, I inhaled sharply. Though her mouth barely moved as she spoke my name, her perfect, white teeth showed just enough for me to make out four tiny, yet still elongated, razor sharp fangs. My heart fluttered rapidly as I wondered if this woman was the creature that she appeared to be, and if so, how did she know me and what did she want with me?
“Y-yes?” I stammered.
“This is not a dream, Kailah. It’s a warning.” She leaned in closer. “Run,” she whispered.
“Wait, what?” I asked, chills once again stabbing me like thousands of needles running from the roots of my hair to the bare, wet soles of my feet.
As soon as I turned to run, the dark thunder cracked overhead and the lightning began touching the ground all around me, trying to hold me where I stood. I heard a loud growl sound out from behind me, but decided not to look back. The earth began to shake again and my bare feet slid on the wet grass, the soft ground cushioning
me as I fell hard on my right hip.
“Hello Kailah.” The new voice sent a shiver down my spine as I looked into the icy blue eyes of the white-haired woman.
Though her hair would have suggested otherwise, she looked no older than me: around twenty. Her skin was also olive toned and absolutely flawless, just like the other woman. Though, normally, one would look to the light as salvation and the darkness as hell, I didn’t think that was the case in this situation. Her crystalline blue eyes had death in them and I found myself backing away from her, toward the raven-haired beauty.
She laughed and the sound enveloped me like frigid water.
“Kailah, you would choose the Vampire over your own grandmother?”
Before I could digest the words that she had unleashed on me, her attention shifted and the blue aura cloud surrounding her exploded into a barrier. Instinctively, my eyes closed and I threw my hand out as a large throwing knife bounced off the cloudy shield and headed for me.
“It is you!” she said with wonder.
My eyes snapped open and surrounding my hand was the same blue energy that surrounded the white-haired woman, only mine had a throwing knife buried in it. I couldn’t stop the scream that bubbled up out of my throat as the energy dissipated and the knife fell in my lap. What the hell was going on?
Her attention shifted again and with soft, graceful movements, a lightning bolt responded as it split from the sky and reached for her outstretched hand. She caught the energy easily before throwing it at her opponent. Another loud growl sounded out only a moment before something slammed hard into the barrier. That something, I realized, was the woman she had referred to as the Vampire.
Dark red energy swelled around the supposed Vampire as she pushed against the barrier of the opposing woman. “Kailah! She can find you in your dreams! Go, now!” As soon as the order left the raven-haired beauty’s lips, energy exploded from her body as the white-haired woman was thrown several feet away. “This dream is a figment of your own mind but, make no mistake, this is a premonition. You are the key to ending this war and if she finds you, it will doom all humans to a fate worse than death. Leave this realm now and prepare your mind. Your life is about to change.”
